From Jane Bryant:
My great great grandmother was Louisa Jane Lackey.I didn't see any record of her first marriage.
Prior to her marriage to Leonard Danley she was married to a Henry J Brewer and they had one child,
Nancy Elizabeth Brewer, my great grandmother. She was born 13 June 1856 in either Waynesboro or Iron
City, TN. Her death certificate lists her father as Henry J Brewer and that is the information we
have from the family. I believe he died when she was very young. Family members said he was part
Cherokee and that Nancy E. is listed on the indian rolls.
I can't say for sure that Louisa Jane was Nancy Elizabeth's birth mother but when she married Leonard
Danley she used the name Louisa Jane Brewer and her grave stone says Louise Brewer Danley. There is
also an article from the Montgomery Co newspaper that was by my grandmother Mary D. McDonald and in
the article she referred to her grandmother as Mrs. Leonard Danley. So I know for sure that Louisa J
raised her.
From Garry Wayne Brewer:
I have the civil war pension on Leonard Danley and Lousia Jane Lackey Brewer Danley. she died in
April 1878 in Montgomery County, Arkansas, she had one daughter by Leonard. Emerlen Danley, born 26
January 1877.
Leonard remarried in Sept 3rd 1880 to Anna Viola Chambers in Montgomery County, Arkansas, Leonard
died 19th of March 1891 in Montgomery, Arkansas and Anna Viola Chambers Danley, died 12 Feb 1923 in
Montgomery, Arkansas.
They had 5 children together.
But back to your question, there is not any mention of Lousia Jane first daughter, Nancy E. Brewer,
but by that time she could have married and stayed in Tennessee or moved to Arkansas, in the file,
Leonard Danley is writing to Richard M. Brewer, back in Wayland Springs, Lawrence County in 1884 and
Richard is still on Butler Creek at the time and has not moved to 48 Creek yet., one of his fellow
soldiers in the Company E., 2nd Mounted Tennessee Infantry and also in the file is letter from Harvey
Lackey, Jacob P. Lackey, who stated they saw the Dead body of the solider first wife Louise Jane
Lackey who died in April 1878 in Montgomery County, Arkansas and they help bury her..
Side note, Leonard was shot in the right thigh in Sept 1864, in a battle near Centerville, Tennessee
and carried 20 miles back to the railroad line and put on a railroad car, sent to Nashville and on to
Jeffersonville, Indiana, release after two months and sent back to Wayne County, Tennessee and
discharged in May 1865.
Side note: The time he was shot was when Bedford Forrest came out of Florence, Alabama on the way to
the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee, they cut off Company E. 2nd Mounted Tennessee Infantry, that's
why, Richard M. Brewer service record for that time period said, on Detached scouting service, the
company was cut off from command by the CSA Army in Wayne and Lawrence county.
But no mention of Nancy E. Brewer, lets see she would have been 20 years old in 1878, when her mother
died in Arkansas, but there are lots of Lackey, and mention of Richard M. Brewer in the file.
