From Dorothy Watson PO Box 306 Bonaparte, Iowa William James, age 10, moved to Iowa with parents in 1864. Resided in Van Buren County until he reached his manhood. Later went west and engaged in farming in Shelby County, Iowa, Married Mary Stamm of Harlan ,Iowa. 8 children born. All of the children except Louise were at his bedside when he passed away. In 1912, he moved his family to Nebraska where he farmed for 8 years. Sold his farm and moved to Omaha, where he resided until his death. He was stricken with apoplexy at 6:30 pm on 5 Aug. 1923. He was a kind and indulgent husband and father and was devoted to his home. His genial and cheerful nature won him scores of friends.
