From the Twentieth Century Biographical Dictionary of Notable Americans Vol XV Victor,Francis Auretta;Author,was born in Rome NY May 23 1826 to Adonajah and Lucy (Williams) Fuller.Both being descendants of English and Welsh ancestory.She attended the Female seminary in Wooster OH and engaged in Literary work publishing in 1851 with her sister "Poems and Sentiment of Imagination with Dramatic Descriptive Pieces" She first married in 1853 to Jackson Barrett of Mich,and secondly in 1862 to Henry Clay Victor first assistant Engineer USN and brother of Orville James Victor (q.v.)She removed to San Francisco CA in 1863 and then to Oregon in 1865.She was a contributor to Newspapers on the west Coast and author of books and poems until 1900.She died in Portland Ore. 13 Nov 1902. In the Hubert Howe Bancroft "A Memoir" it states Frances marrie Henry C Victor a naval engineer who came to California on orders in 1863.Mrs Victor accompanied him stopping a while in Acapulco Mex where the Narragansett to which Mr Victor was ordered was lying .At San Francisco she wrote for the San Francisco Bulletin under the nom-de-plume of Florence Fane.At the time of the close of the civil war Mr Victor was reassigned and went to Oregon and Mrs Victor followed.(1865)One book she wrote after moving to Oregon was "All Over Oregon and Washington" and also The River of the West. 1870 census Multnomah Co Oregon shows Frances Victor living with a family by the name of Dewitt.He is a printer and editor.Frances is listed as 46 years old an authoress with personal property worth 5,000.00 dollars.Her husband Henry must have been out to Sea.
