The first Clinedinst came to America in 1710 and brought a Coat of Arms. Settled in York, Pennsylvania. Michael Clinedinst who lived and died in Augusta Co., VA. at the big stone church north of Staunton. He was sexton of the Stone Church at Fort Defiance, and is buried in the churchyard. He was a wagon maker by trade and a native of Virginia. Michael Clinedinst married Miss Bumbough of Shenendoah County. Their children were: John, Jacob, William, Andrew, James, Mary, who married William Morrison and Rebecca, who was the wife of David Horshour. Of these children, John was the grandfather of B. West Clinedinst, a celebrated painter.
