Gaskill Family
The present day representative of the Gaskill family in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Edward Orville
Gaskill, is a grandson of Elwood Gaskill, of Fayette county, an old settler and farmer.
(II) Robert, son of Elwood Gaskill, was born in Fayette county, Pennsylvania, killed on the railroad
in 1885. He was a miner all his adult life, and a Republican in politics. He married Charlotte
Victor, born in Fayette county, died in 1885, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Victor, he a farmer
and veteran of the civil war. He died aged over eighty years. His wife also lived to extreme old age.
They were the parents of fourteen children, five of whom are living. Children of Mr. and Mrs.
Gaskill: 1. John, a conductor on the Pennsylvania railroad, resides in Uniontown. 2. Walter, an
engineer on the Pennsylvania railroad, resides at Brownsville. 3. Marie, married D. Emmerson Coldren,
resides at Uniontown, Pennsylvania. 4. Edward O., of whom further. 5. Gertrude, married Hugh Alkins,
resides at Brownsville.
(III) Edward Orville, youngest son of Robert and Charlotte (Victor) Gaskill, was born at Mount
Pleasant, Pennsylvania, November 9, 1879. When a very young boy he went with an uncle to the state of
Kansas, and there he was educated in the public school, remaining until he was seventeen years of
age. He then returned to Pennsylvania and for two years was clerk for the Union Supply Company in
Uniontown. He then established a meat and grocery business at Nos. 4 and 6 North Gallatin street,
where he conducted a successful business for eleven years. He then retired from business for one
year, and in 1911 established a grocery business at No. 44 North Gallatin street, where he is now
located. He is a Republican in politics, and a member of the Central Christian Church. He is also a
member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He married, March 23, 1901, Mary Margaret Sutton,
born at Fairchance, Pennsylvania, died at Uniontown, August 5, 1911, daughter of Albert and Eliza
Sutton, Children: Albert Leroy, Clyde Paul, Goldie Catherine, Edward Harold, Margaret Virginia.
