Mrs. John Sylvester Smith
Mrs. John Sylvester Smith, 1115 West Lake Avenue, who had taught French here for many years, died
at Union Memorial Hospital yesterday.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4 P.M. today at the Mount Washington Presbyterian Church, of
which she was a member, and burial will be in the St. Mark's Churchyeard, Perryville, Cecil County.
Born in France in 1878, Mrs. Smith, the former Mlle. Sara Ricou, came to Baltimore in 1902 with
Mrs. Charles Green. She lived with Mrs. Green until she became established as a teacher of French.
Until her death, she was an active worker for French relief. Mrs. Smith's husband died eight years
ago, and the only relatives surviving live in France.
Grace Irene Whale Meneely says that John was an editorial proof reader for the Baltimore Sun, and
that John and Sara had no children. |
