Research Notes -- David G Brewer
Eugene Russell Lonsinger: born November 11, 1903 in Johnstown, PA, died February 1984.

Son of Launce Lonsinger and Mary Ellen Horner (long line of ancestry there). Other children were
Dorothy, Charles and William. Launce died when Eugene was only five and he was sent to an orphange
in Greenville, PA until he graduated from highschool and moved to Uniontown to be reunited with his
mother, who had remarried Lucien McFadden.

The story of Launce and Mary Ellen is convoluted, but the gist of it is that Launce was a pharmacist
who accidentally or intentionally O.D.ed on medication before work one day in 1908. He was only 25.
Eugene, the oldest, was sent to an orphanage, Dorothy was sent to her aunt's (Mary ellen's sister -
Vera Cuppett) to live, Charles, the youngest at under one year was put up for adoption -- to a local
family (Charles was hence known as Walter Graft), and William stayed with Mary Ellen, apparently
because he was a troublemaker and needed an eye on.

After Mary Ellen Lonsinger/McFadden (nee Horner) remarried there was a time of stability as they
lived on a nice 16 acre farm belonging to Lucien McFadden in Fairchance, PA. After Lucien died in
1936, Mary Ellen sold the farm to her son Eugene's in-laws -- Homer and Jennie Miller. So as my dad
puts it: "it was strange because both sets of my grandparents owned the farm." Homer and Jennie lived
on the farm until Homer died in 1964. Then Jennie sold the farm for a paltry $5,000.
