Research Notes -- David G Brewer
From Scott Bumbaugh:

William Clyde Bumbaugh was born 24 November 1877 in McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, the
son of John Wesley Bumbaugh and Malissa J. Schnatterly. I have no information on his death.

William first married Susan (or Susannah) Bashoor on 2 December 1896 in Reynoldton, Allegheny County,
Pennsylvania. Susan was the daughter of Jacob Bashoor and Carlene (surname unknown). Susan was born
16 October 1879 and died between the enumeration of the 1900 and 1910 censuses. William and Susan
had one child:

1.) Alverda R. Bumbaugh, born July 1897 in McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Alverda was
married at least twice: first to a man surnamed Roe and secondly to a man surnamed Burch. I have no
further information on her.

After Susan's death, William married Sylvia (surname unknown). This marriage occurred about 1920.
Sylvia was born about 1877 in Ohio. Apparently she was pregnant by another man at the time of the
marriage, because a son, William Bumbaugh, was born in 1920. He is listed as a "step-son" on the
1930 census.

I have no further information on any of these individuals.

Marriage license registered in the Allegheny County Courthouse, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Series C
#8961. Since both William and Susan were under the age of 21, their fathers had to sign consent to
the marriage of a child or minor forms. The marriage was performed by A. Dell Johnston.

1900 Census for 10th ward McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania vol. 23, ed. 436, sheet 12,
line 26, dated 8 June. It lists William C. Bumbaugh (November 1877, aged 22, PA, parents born in PA,
iron molder), wife Susan B. (October 1879, aged 20, OH, father born in Germany, mother born in PA),
and daughter Alverda R. (July 1897, aged 2, PA). The family was living at 412 Ruth Street,
McKeesport, PA. It indicates that he and Susan had been married three years. Susan indicated that
she had had one child, still living.

1910 census for McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania (012-0143-0007). William was living with
his parents at the time of the census. It states that he was a widower, and was employed as a
moulder. His daughter, Alverda, was living with her paternal aunt, Alverda Bumbaugh Harrison, and
uncle, Peter R. Harrison in Donora, Washington County, PA.

1920 census for Monessen, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania (320-153-9-6), page 9A, line 6 ,
enumerated 12 January. It lists William C. (aged 42, PA) and his second wife, Sylvia (aged 42, Ohio).
They indicated that they had married at age 42 (same age as at time of census). William was
employed as a moulder at the foundry. They were living at 309 Schoonmaker Avenue.

1930 census for Monessen, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, page 11 B, enumeration district 92, line
93, enumerated 2 April. It lists William (aged 53, PA), wife Sylvia (aged 53, PA), step son (?)
William Bumbaugh (aged 10, Kansas; father, PA; mother Ohio), and daughter Alberta [sic] Burch (aged
34, PA). William indicated that both his parents had been born in West Virginia; Sylvia indicated
that her parents were both born in England. William was employed as a moulder at the foundry.
Alverda (Alberta) was employed as a bookkeeper at a sewing machine factory. William indicated that
he was a veteran. The enumerator marked S.A. (Spanish American War?).
If William is his step-son, he must have been born shortly before or after William and Sylvia were
married. He was not living with them when the 1920 census was enumerated.

The 1900 census indicates that Susan was born in Ohio, that her father was born in Germany, and her
mother in Pennsylvania. However, on the marriage license she indicated that she had been born in
Beaver County, Pennsylvania (it does border Ohio).

1880 census for Dravosburg, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. It lists Jacob Bashoor (aged 35,
Prussia, parents born in Prussia; a miner), wife Carline (aged 30, PA, parents born in Prussia), son
John (aged 9, PA), daughter Annie (aged 3, PA), and daughter Susannah [sic] (aged 7 months, PA).

1900 census for Mifflin Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, enumerated 16 June. It lists Jacob
Bashoor (September 1844, aged 55, Germany, parents born in Germany, railroad foreman), wife Carlene
(July 1850 [?], aged 50 [?], Pennsylvania, parents born in Germany), son John (January 1871, aged 24,
PA), and son Adam (September 1886, aged 13, PA). The census indicates that they had been married 31
years. Carlene indicated that she had had a total of nine children, wifth four deceased at the time
of the census.
