Notes
16.
PHILLIP (Fichter) VICTOR-71
Phillip was a well to do landowner and iron producer
in Fayette Co Pa.He and his brother Joseph and
father David were also owners of Inn,and Stores in the
Haydentown, Fayette Co Pa area. They owned several thousand
acres of timberland which they logged to make Charcoal for the
manufacturing of iron.It was stated that Phillip was a very stout man
5'10 weighing 250 lbs and could lift 2 - 500lb anvils one with each arm
through the hole in the anvils.
18.
DAVID JR (FICHTER) VICTOR-834
David migrated to Muskingum Co Ohio sometime after
1810 with his father,brothers Jacob,Adam,Henry,and sister Jane.At that
time it is believed he was married with at least 2 sons.He appears on the
early tax records before 1825 along with his father and Jacob. He and his
wife had at least 5 sons and 2 daughters according to early census records
in Musk. Co Licking Twp Oh.I have listed 6 of what I believe are his children
obtained from what records I could obtain. His wifes surname was obtained
from the St Thomas Catholic Church Records in Zanesville Ohio where she
and David had some of their children baptized.David died sometime between
1840 and 1850.Anna is listed as a widow in 1850 Musk Co census.
59.
Lucy "Asenth" Louisa Victor-1983
She Never married
21.
MARY (FICHTER) VICTOR-847
Mary Victor was born 1790 to 1795 probably in New Jersey before the family migrated
to Fayette Co P)a from NJ.I am in possession of a written oral family history from the
late 1800's that states Mary married a Parker and that she raised a boy
by the name of Joseph Parker. In her brother Jacobs will he leaves all his brothers
and sisters one dollar and mentions them all by name including Mary Parker.I have
researched Fayette Co Pa but have been unable to locate a Parker anywhere
in that area in the time span of here life nor in Muskingen Co Ohio where her Father
went to after 1810 with three of his sons and his daughter Jane. The other two sons
and two daughters remained in Fayette Co Pa.
I have come into some information recently that Mary Victor married a Benjamin Parker
of Alleghany Co Md.She was the first wife. They had two children one of which(Philip
Parker) settled in Muskingen Co Ohio before 1840 in Nashport Ohio.I am at this time
doing further research on this information.
22.
JOSEPH (Fichter) VICTOR-57
JOSEPH WAS A WELL KNOWN IRON PRODUCER
AND BUSINESS MAN IN FAYETTE CO PA.THERE WERE MANY
ARTICLES WRITTEN ABOUT HIM IN THE EARLY HISTORIES OF
FAYETTE CO.HIS CHILDREN WERE VERIFIED THRU FAMILY RECORDS, ESTATE
SETTLEMENTS,CENSUS RECORDS AND OBITS OF HIS CHILDREN.
JOSEPH PURCHASED THE MARY ANN IRON FURNACE IN 1817 AND THIS
HISTORICAL FURNACE IS STILL OWNED BY A DESCENDANT GEORGE COOLEY.
75.
DAVID OTHO VICTOR-768
David left Fayette Co Pa after his marriage 25 Apr 1854
in Georges Twp.They went west to Ill.According to Victor
history compiled by Mary Lulu Victor Jones he was last known
to be in Louisville Kentucky.
23.
Henry Clay (FICHTER) VICTOR-1933
Apparently not much was known about Henry at first because
he was not mentioned in the Victor family history.1800 census shows
two males under 10 In Davids household One would be Joseph b 1791.All of
Josephs other brothers were much older.1810 Fayette Co Census shows 1 male
10-15 and 1 male 15-20.Joseph would be in the 15-20 bracket. So who is the
one in the 10-15 Bracket. We will now go to Jacobs will in 1858 in Muskingen
Co Ohio where he names his brorthers and sisters. He names a Henry but not
an Adam who we know was a brother form other records.I had assumed that
Adam must have also been called Henry.I recently figured out that Adam was
not named in the will because he had died on 1839 and had no living family
While going thru my file of records from Muskingen Co Ohio I found a marriage
record for a Henry Victor 10 May 1821 to Gertrude Nash Cook. They were married
by Rev Prescott B Smith the same minister that married Jane Victor a couple of
months before. The time of the marriage, the naming in Jacobs will, the ages
in the census records is evidence enough to prove that Henry was the son
of David Victor and Jane Brady.
In a Family history of Jane Victor Smith written by Jeremiah Stark a retired college
Professor in Texas who is a descendant of Jane Victor Smith he states that in
letters written by Janes children that they remember their mother talking of her
brothers Philip,Joseph,and Henry.
Apparently Henry and his family followed his sister Jane and her husband Samuel
Smith to northern Ohio in the late 1820's.In the 1830 Census both families are in
Huron Co Ohio.In the 1840 census both families are in Erie Co Ohio.Erie Co Ohio
was formed in 1838 from Huron Co.They must have parted ways before 1850
because Jane And her husband and family headed to Texas about this time.
The family of Henry was just recently revealed to me from information from a
source who pointed me to information on the internet on from sources in
Biographies of Notable Americans 1904 and 1913.
The following was copied from "A Standard History of Erie Co Oh " Vol @
by Hewson L Peeke published 1916-----
In pioneer communities the tavern or inn was always an important center of
community life.Much of the pioneer history of Sandusky involves the name of
Henry Clay Victor, who was one of the very early settlers, and who for a
number of years kept a tavern on what was then the outskirts of the village
While his life and career belong to the first half of the last century,it is
an interesting fact that one of his children,a Miss Florence A Victor, is
still a resident of Sandusky, her home being at 324 Fulton Street.
Henry Clay Victor was born in P.A. about 1790.Little is known of his early
life,or of his ancestry, but he came to Ohio when still as a young man, and
knew and was knownby practically all the pioneers of Erie County. His first
location was near Venice, where he kept a tavern some time, and probably as
early as 1820 came to Sandusky, and there continued his services for the
entertainment of travelers. He purchased a commodious frame building for his
purposes. At that time the location was on the edge of a small but
flourishing town, and surrounding the tavern was a dense growth of hazel
and brush trees. His fellow citizens thought him unwise to have built so far
from the center of the town, and called his place " Victors Folly " but
subsequent growth and developement proved the wisdom of his choice and as is
well know that location is now almost in the heart of the city. the inn
subsequently went by the name of Townsend House, and was continued under
that name until it burned down a number of years later.
Mr. Victor sold his inn about 1840 and removed to Seneca County, where he
bought a farm, and with the exception of about two years spent in Norwalk
lived there until his death in 1848. He married Gertrude Nash, who
represented one of the early pioneer families of southern Ohio. She was born
in NYC in July 1799. Her maternal grandfather was Major Horton of White
Plains NY, and a soldier of the Revolution. Mrs Victor's father came west
and was one of the early settlers of Muskingum County, where he secured a
large tract of land and founded the town of Nashport, named in his honor,
where both he and his wife spent their last years.
A few years after the death of her husband, Mrs. Victor sold the only old
farm in Seneca Co. and returned to Sandusky where she lived until her death
in 1882. Her first husband was Mr Cooke, and by that union there was a son
named William Washington. By her marriage to Mr. Victor her eight children
were Mary E, Caroline M, Orville James, Henry Clay, George W, Jacob N,
Gertrude H, and Florence Annette. Miss Florence A.is the only one of the
family now living in Sandusky. She is a well read woman,an interesting
conversationalist on different topics, and cherishes the old recollections
and associations of her family with early times in Sandusky.
In a Bio of Orvillie James Victor it reveals that Orvilles Parents were Henry
Clay Victor and Gertrude Nash Victor and his grandparents were David
and Jane Brady Victor.A Positive connection to David and Jane Brady Victor.

Henry Victor and Gertrude from an article written by Hubert
Lowe Bancroft "Literary industries A Memoir" chapter XI
pge 261 about the two sister who were noted authors. They were

that their Husbands were brothers.Frances having married Henry Clay
Victor and Metta married Orville James Victor. In Orvilles Bio it is stated
he is the son of Henry Victor and Gertrude and that his parents were
David and Jane (Brady) Victor. Thus they are brothers.
In the above "Memoir" it states that Frances married Henry C Victor

the youngest of 8 children born to David Victor and Jane Brady and the only one born

When Jane was about 11or 12 years old in about 1809 Her parents, along with two older
brothers went west to Muskingen Co Ohio.On 16 Mar 1821she married to Samuel Smith

near Franklinton Oh and it was recorded Dec 8 1804.In the next 10
years he cleared the land and founded the town of Clinton Oh.Some time
in this period he married and the three children by his first wife were born.
In the next few years the town of Clinton struggled. In about 1817 Smith
abandoned his hopes and migrated north to Muskingen Co Ohio. His

Muskingen County Ohio he layed out the town of Newark Oh and in
