Louis Graford Melton, 82, of Tuscumbia, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at Helen Keller Hospital.
He was born in Waynesboro, Tenn., on July 7, 1927, to the late Harvey and Velma Melton. He was a Navy
veteran of World War II and retired from the Cherokee Post Office. He loved swimming, fishing and
being surrounded by family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mary Kathryn Cosby Melton; daughters, Donna and husband, Pete
Futrell, of Florence, Marilyn and husband, Morris Morrison, of Tupelo, Miss.; son, Mike and wife,
Mona Melton, of Tuscumbia; five grandchildren, Wendy and husband, Brian Trousdale, of Athens, Dr.
Jenny and husband, Dr. Kelly Heegard, of San Antonio, Texas, Lee Morrison, of Tupelo, Miss., Ty
Melton and Tory Melton, of Tuscumbia; two great-grandchildren, Heather and Marshall Trousdale, of
Athens; two sisters, Lunell Smith, of Nashville, Tenn., and Dora Jane Carr, of St. Paul, Minn.;
sister-in-law, Dora Melton, of Cherokee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Buford Melton, of Cherokee, Austin Melton, of Nashville,
Tenn., and Bill Melton, of Waynesboro, Tenn., and two sisters, Clara Morrow, of Toledo, Ohio, and
Georgia Gobbell, of Nashville, Tenn.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia, Ala., with
burial following in Cherokee Memorial Gardens. Visitation was Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Lee Morrison, Ty Melton, Tory Melton, Dr. Kelly Heegard, Terry Cosby and John
Futrell.
The family wants to give special thanks to the ICU and PCU nursing staff at Helen Keller Hospital and
to the DaVita Dialysis staff for their compassionate and loving care of our husband and father and to
MidSouth Home Health and especially Jada Harris, Thomas King and Thomas Spence. We also want to thank
Dr. Boorgu, Dr. Paul and Dr. Ray.
Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, is directing.
