Misc from Pat Earnest Bailey:
...about Florence Kelley Harper. We called her "Auntie". After she divorced James Walter Harper for
the way he treated her family. She divorced him and they were divorced 30 years. After her mother
and sister died and Homer was grown, she and he remarried. It was more a marriage of convenience,
though. To give him a home and to help her with expenses. Harriett E. Brewer Bennett Linville b.10
Aug. 1858 d. 15 Oct 1940. Louis Ann Henrietta Brewer Kelley b. 6 Apr 1861 d. 7 Sept 1944. Clura
Lounettie b. 17 Sept. 1882 d.23 Dec. 1945, she was 63 and had been blind since the age of 21.
Florence worked in the Florence Cotton Mill to support the infant, her mother and her sister. This
was a big industry here in those days and provided jobs and housing for a lot of people. You could
rent a house from the Mill for a quarter a room!
Dee Kelley Earnest had a child, Harvey, b. 15 July 1908 d. 18 July 1908 and six years later, my Dad
was born 3 Aug. 1914 d. 27 Nov. 1987. Frederick went to first Bemis, TN, remarried a Bertha Eady and
had 7 children, they later moved to Nashville and that is where he died in March 1939.
She placed the 3 youngest children with the Catholic Orphanage there but they were never adopted, the
youngest was 10 when they were placed there. |
