BREWER, George M., Pvt, Co. E, 2nd Tennessee Mounted Infantry, USV, enlisted 6/8/10 Feb 1864
Waynesboro or Clifton, TN, discharged 10 May 1865, Nashville, TN. Soldier was 5'5", fair complexion,
light hair and blue eyes. Soldier born 10 June 1844, Wayne Co., TN. and died at his residence in 7th
Civil District, Wayne Co., TN on 1 Sep 1912. Married Esther B. SMITH on 31 Aug 1865, Wayne Co., TN by
Rev. Daniel A. PHILLIPS. Widow died 16 Feb 1930 Wayne Co., TN buried Cedar Grove Cem. Soldier's
application 700,063, widow's application 753,250. Children: S. M. BREWER, b. 17 May 1866; James W.
BREWER, born 1 Jan 1868; P. A. BREWER, born 3 Aug 1870; B. S. BREWER, born 3 Dec 1872; J. H. BREWER,

1891, soldier spent 23 months in Lunatic Assylum; was very boistrous at beginning; had killed one of
his uncles or kinsmen. Reported that whiskey was case of insanity. Son G. R. BREWER was appointed
guardian of widow, Esther BREWER in 1929. In letter to commissioner speaks of his brother-inlaw Oscar

From Garry Wayne Brewer:
Military Records dated Feby. 10,1864 to May 10,1865 state that George M. Brewer was 19 years old,blue
eyes, he was present but for the following dates, April 30,1864 present with remarks. In Hospital,
sick, June 30,1864 absent without leave since June 1864. On June 21,1891 George writes: I was taken
sick and sent to Hospital 9 or 10 years ago, where they say I recuated 23 months I do not remember
what passed while I was there, When I came to myself I was paralyzed in my left side and I have never
recovered a proper use of it. I cannot do Manuel labor. George M. (LAST PORTION OF NOTES FROM BOARD)
The 23 months in hospital was in Lunatic Asylum, he was very boisterous in the beginning & killed one
of his Uncles or near kinsman.(JAMES H. BREWER, His Cousin) He is dementia, aged silly now and the
man with him here says he has no homicidal or suicidal position, his heart is Normal,and are f----,
no evidence of syphilis, however previous to his insanity 8 or 9 years ago he drank whiskey a great
deal, he was said to be of loose morals, this is a case of loss of motion,or impaired coordination of
motion,or impaired coordination and not one of complete paralysis. he cannot perform manual labor
