misc. - Goodspeed's History of Wayne County, Tennessee p. 872
James E. M. McAnally is the son of Elisha R. McAnally, who was born in North Carolina, and who was a
farmer and gunsmith by occupation. He married Feriba Bowden, of Georgia, and they together reared a
family of twelve children, and accumulated some property. He and Mrs. McAnally were members of the
Christian Church, and he was a Whig in politics, and sided with the Union during the late Rebellion.
His wife died in 1865 and he in 1873. Our subject's birth occurred in Wayne County in 1830. He
began farming for himself at the age of twenty-five years, and after living in different localities
in the county, finally in 1870, purchased his present farm of 160 acres. Besides this, he owns about
500 acres in different locations in the county, and devotes the most of his land to the production of
corn, small grain and peanuts. In 1855 he united his fortunes with those of Fannie Robnett, daughter
of John and Nancy (Staggs) Robnett. She was born in 1834 and is the mother of eight children:
Toulbert F., Houston, Ellender, Louisa, Esther, Margaret, Timothy R., and an infant deceased, not
named. Mr. McAnally and his wife are members of the Christian Church, and he has always been a firm
republican in politics.

9:881 John Robnett, pioneer of Wayne County, Tenn, was born in the Palmetto State in 1804, and is a
son of John and Margaret (Nesbitt) Robnett, natives of Delaware and South Carolina, respectively.
They came to Tennessee in 1816, and were the second family that located in Wayne County. The father
farmed until his death which occurred about 1824. His wife died in 1819. The father took for his
second wife a lady by the name of Farris, who died in 1831. John Robnett, our subject resided with
his step-mother two years after his father's death, when he moved on his present farm of 1300 acres.
In 1828 he married Nancy Staggs, daughter of Joseph and Fannie (Nesbitt) Staggs, and their union has
been blessed in the birth of ten children: Joseph N., John, Cynthia , Fannie, James, Margaret, Jane,
Jeremiah, Neal S. and Ellender. Mr. Robnett is now eighty-two years old, but bids for to live many
years yet. He vividly remembers many incidents of pioneer life, and the hardships, with which the
early settlers were obliged to contend, in the settlement of the county. In politics he is a stanch
Republican, and furnished two sons for the Union Army. His wife is a member of the Christian Church.
From Garry Wayne Brewer:
In 1880 John and Nancy sold the mineral rights to their land for $10,000.00 and gave each child
$1,000.00 each (there were only 8 children living at the time so this left John and Nancy $1,000.00
each. this land was located in the 14th Civil District of Wayne County. One of the stories John Jr.
would like to tell is about HOW BIG THE TREES WERE IN THE EARLY DAYS AND HOW HIGH THE SCRATCHES OF
THE BEARS' CLAWS WERE IN THE BARK. The deed for the mineral rights are in Book R, page 476 of the
Deed Records of Wayne County, Tennessee, dated March 6, 1890. Listed are the Following: John Robnett
& Wife, Nancy Robnett, E.B.Howard & Wife, E.C. Howard, Jas. S. Robnett and Wife, Sallie, Joseph S.
Robnett and Wife, Rachel, Margaret Robnett, Neil S. Robnett, J.S. McAnnally and Wife, Fannie, Geo. W.
Staggs and Wife, Cynithia, and Jeremiah R. Robnett and Wife, D.C.L. (note: Nancy Jane Robnett Poag
had died without children, and John Robnett 3rd died in 1839 as a child) they sold the rights for
$10,000.00 to G.W.Boyd. From the tombstone in Walnut Grove Cemetery: John Robnett, born Aug 1,
1804, died April 13, 1895. Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall God.
