From the Wayne County Newspaper, Sept 7, 1978, Friday. Lester Jackson was transported from his
residence on Mt. Hope road to Wayne County General and later transfetted to VA Hospital in Nashville
Friday, September 1.
From the Wayne County Newspaper, Sept 21,1978 Lester Jackson,Sr. Funeral services for Lester Jackson,
Sr, 82 of Waynesboro were conducted September 18 at 2 p.m. from Middle Tennessee Funeral Home Chapel
with Larry James and Herman Buchanan officiating. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Mr. Jackson
died September 16 at Veterans Hospital in Nashville. He was a native of Wayne County, a son of the
late William and Amanda Hunt Jackson. He was a farm worker, a member of the Methodist Church, member
of the American Legion and a Veteran of World War 1. Surviviors include two sons, Chester of Chula
Vista, Calif. and Lester Jackson, Jr. of Waynesboro: seven daughters, Mrs. Ester Brewer of Orem,
Utah, Mrs. Bessie Blair of Monte Clair, Calif. Mrs. Ima Coffey of Nashville, Mrs. Delcie McKinney of
Big Bend, Calif. Mrs. Nona Brewer, Mrs. Peggy McWilliams, and Mrs. Dinah Vandergriff all of
Waynesboro; five brothers, Bill,Russell and Hershel all of Wrigley, Almon of Hohenwald and Albert
Jackson of Waynesboro. 29 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
World War One, Lester Jackson, Number 2873278, Private, Co. N, 4th Regt, Casuals, White. Honorably
Discharged from the military service of the United States by reason of services no longer required,
28th day of December 1918., Blue Eyes, Brown Hair, Dark Complexion and was 5 feet, 7 1/2 inches in
height. Enlisted 28 May, 1918 at Waynesboro, Tennessee.
From the Wayne County Newspaper, October 11,1974, Friday, Mrs. Gertie Jackson, Graveside services for
Mrs. Gertie Mae Jackson, 72,of Rt. 3, Waynesboro were conducted October 6 at 2 o'clock at Walnut
Grove Cemetery. Middle Tennessee Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Jackson died
October 5 at Crockett General Hospital in Lawrenceburg. She was a native of Wayne County, a daughter
of Mathew and Lizzie Staggs Staggs. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Surviviors include her
husband, Lester Jackson,Sr. three sons, Lester JR. and Vivian D. both of Waynesboro and Chester A.
Jackson of Chula Vista, California; seven daughters, Mrs. Peggy McWilliams, Mrs. Dinah Vandygriffe
and Mrs. Nona Brewer all of Waynesboro, Mrs. Ima Coffey of Nashville, Mrs. Betty Blair of Montclair,
Calif. Mrs. Esther Brewer of San Jose, Calif. Mrs. Delice McKinney of Big Bend, Calif. a sister Mrs.
Pearl Roberson of Hohenwald: 27 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
