Funeral Services Conducted Tuesday Carl "Goody" Brewer
Waynesboro was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Carl M. (Goody) Brewer, 62 of Waynesboro who
passed away Sunday, December 29 following a long illness.
Highly respected throughout the community for his kindness and sense of fair play, Lt. Brewer served
the city of Waynesboro for 20 years as a police officer before his illness forced his retirement in
1990.
A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Doc and Oma Mae Smith Brewer. Mr. Brewer was
educated in the public schools in Wayne County. He and his wife, Dorothy Mae Brewer, who survives,
were lifelong residnets of the Waynesboro area where they reared four children.
Mr. Brewer was a veteran of the U.S.Army; serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans
of Foreign Wars and the Fraternal Order of Police.
He was a member of the Forty-Eight Creek Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral services for Mr. Brewer
were conducted Tuesday, December 31 at 1 P.M. at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Harper, W.
L. Wallace and Mike Kemper Officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Brewer is survived by three sons, Carl Lee of Dyersburg and James C. and
Johnnie Dewayne Brewer, both of Waynesboro; one daughter, Dena Mae Belsha of Waynesboro; four
brothers, Bill, Bob, and E. J. all of Waynesboro, and Cranston Brewer of Howell, Michigan; two
sisters, Christine Lindsay of Waynesboro and Norma Jean Scantino of Dearborn, Michigan; 12
grandchildren and on one step grandchild. |
