From the Wayne World War One Records Book, Loyal D. Melton, Service number 4430868, Private, Company
Engineers, was born West Point, Tennessee on 15 August 1896. He was inducted 28 Aug 1918 at
Waynesboro, Tennessee and was discharged 31 Jan 1919 at Fort Oglethorpe,GA. He is described with blue
eyes, light hair, fair complexion and 5'8", he is the son of William P. Melton and Anna Stutts. From

Funeral for World War Veteran Who Died Sunday Morning, Lawrenceburg Hospital Ater Wreck Mile East
Waynesboro. Loyal D. Melton, 40 year old farmer of the Hog Creek section of this county died in the
Lawrenceburg hospital early Sunday morning where he had been taken after an automobile wreck at 12:00
Saturday night one mile east of Waynesboro on Highway 64 as the party were returning from a school
social on Dog Creek, north of Waynesboro. Mr. Melton was a veteran of the World War and a member of
L.O.Crane Post of the American Legion. Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Melton of Florence,
Ala. he is survived by his wife, Lucile Brewer Melton and six children, the youngest a babe of three
weeks. Roosevelt Gandy, owner and driver of the car, is a native of Flornece as was another compnion
by the name of Wright, Gandy suffered injuries sufficient to necessitate his removal to the hospital.
The other were only slightly hurt. A locked steering wheel is said to have been the cause for the
wreck. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. C.S. Parker, pastor of the Waynesboro M.E.
Church, South and chaplian of the Post Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock at Cedar Grove Church on
Butler's Creek, with full military honors. A large delegation of ex-service men from Lawrenceburg
and Waynesboro were present. Thomas Harris, of Harris, Legg & Williams was in charge of funeral
arrangements.

From the Wayne County Newspaper, Wednesday April 10, 1996. Maudie Lucille Frazier. Funerals ervices
for Maudie Lucille Frazier, 96 of 225 Metal Ford Rd. Hohenwald will be conducted today, Wednesday,
April 10 at 11 A.M. at the McDonald Funeral Home with Richard Tate officiating . Burial was in Ceder
Grove Cemetery in Wayne County. Mrs. Frazier died Sunday, April 7 at Lewis County Ambulatory Care in
Hohenwald. She was a native of Waynesboro, the daughter of the late James Henry Brewer and Mary
Brewer. She was a homemaker. Surviviors include two daughters, Mary E. Tharp and Reba May Clay both
of Hohenwald; three sons, James William Melton , Glenn Houston Melson and Jimmie Ray Melton all of
Hohenwald; seventeen grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren and seven
great-great-grandchildren. |
