Grant Downey Bumbaugh was born 11 October 1885 in McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and
died 24 April 1956 in McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.  He was a son of John Wesley
Bumbaugh and Malissa J. Schnatterly. 
 
Grant first married Jessie Lee Cannon on 12 December 1907 in McKeesport, Allegheny County,
Pennsylvania.  Jessie Lee Cannon was born 3 August 1885 in Clifton, Mason County, West Virginia, a
daughter of [unknown] Cannon and Carrie [surname unknown]. 
 
Grant and Jessie had one child:
 
1.)  Leah Nora Biddle, born 7 February 1911 in McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; died 25
April 1992 in McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.  Leah was married to Marshall D. Biddle. 
Marshall was born 25 October 1908 in McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; and died 21 June
1992 in White Oak, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.  He was a son of William Biddle and Eurana
[surname unknown].
 
Grant married a second time to Alice Callaway, who was born in Troy, Rensselaer County, New York, a
daughter of George Callaway and Mary Ann [surname unknown].  [Note: Dave, I just found out about this
second marriage and haven't done any research on it.]  Alice Callaway died 9 May 1950 in McKeesport,
Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.  Alice Callaway was previously married to a man with the surname of
Murray.

Information on marriage is recorded in the Allegheny County Courthouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Series G #6153.  They were married by A. Theodore Smith.  NOTE:  the marriage license indicates that
Grant was born on 12 October 1885.
 
Wedding announcement in "The Daily News", McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, dated Thursday,
12 December 1907.  It reads:  Cannon-Bumbaugh.  The wedding of Miss Jessie Cannon, daughter of Mrs.
Carrie Cannon, of 1124 Walnut street, and Mr. Grant Bumbaugh, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bumbaugh, of
West Fifth avenue, will be solemnized this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the parsonage of the Atlantic
Avenue U.P. church by the Rev. A. Theodore Smith.  The ceremony will be a quiet affair and will be
witnessed by the mother and sister of the groom and the mother of the bride.  Mr. and Mrs. Bumbaugh
will make their home with the bride's mother.  The bride-groom is employed as a moulder in the
National tube works.
 
1920 Census for McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania (16-197-14-42), enumerated 14 January.  It
lists Grant (aged 33, PA), wife Jessie (aged 33, WV), Leah (aged 8, PA), and mother-in-law Carrie
Cannon (aged 50, WV)  It indicates that Grant had been married once.  He indicated that both his
parents were from Pennsylvania, and that he was a moulder at the foundry. The family was living  at
525 13th Street.
  
1930 census for McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, page 4 A, enumeration district 680, line
22, enumerated 7 April.  It lists Grant (aged 43, PA), wife Jessie (aged 43, WV), daughter Leah
Biddle (aged 19, PA), and son-in-law Marshall Biddle (aged 21, PA).  The census indicates that Grant
and Jessie  married at age 22 (making it about 1907, rather than 1911).  Jessie indicated that her
father had been born in New York, and her mother in West Virginia.  Grant indicated that both his
parents had been born in Pennsylvania.  He was employed as a moulder for National Tube.  Marshall was
employed as a salesman at a baking company.  The family was living at 1308 Bailey Avenue.
 
Death certificate from State of Pennsylvania.  It records Grant's date of birth as 12 October 1885. 
It indicates that he died at home (1301 Bailey Avenue, McKeesport, PA) on 24 April 1956, and that he
was 70 years 6 months and 12 days old at the time of his death.  Death was caused by acute coronary
thrombosis.  The death certificate also indicates that he was separated from his wife; that he was
retired from the National Tube Company of McKeesport (worked as a moulder).  His social security
number was 194-05-3604.  It was signed by Leah N. Biddle, who also lived at 1301 Bailey Avenue.  She
reported that his parents were John Bumbaugh and Melissa Schnatterly.  Grant is buried in Richland
Cemetery.
 
Obituary for Grant D. Bumbaugh in "The Daily News", McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, dated
Friday, 25 April 1956.  It reads:  Grant D. Bumbaugh:  Friends will be received at the Finney Funeral
Home in McKeesport after 7 p.m. today for Grant D. Bumbaugh, 70, of 1301 Bailie Ave., who died
yesterday in his home.  He was born Oct. 12, 1885, in McKeesport and was a retired employe [sic] of
the National Tube Co., He was a member of the McKeesport Aerie 285, F.O. Eagles, and the Woodmen of
the World. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Leah Nora Biddle of McKeesport; grandchildren, two
brothers, George Bumbaugh of McKeesport and Charles Bumbaugh of Loraine, O., and a sister, Mrs.
Alverda Harrison of Dravosburg.  The Rev. Harlan C. Musser will conduct services on Saturday at 1:30
p.m. in the funeral home and interment will be in Richland Cemetery.
 
Correction in "The Daily News", McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania for the obituary of Grant
D. Bumbaugh.  It reads:  Five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren were omitted in the list of
survivors of Grand D. Bumbaugh, 70, of 1301 Bailie Ave., who died on Tuesday in his home.
 
Information on Jessie Lee Cannon from:
 
1900 census for 34d Ward McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, lines 30-33; dated 4 June.  It
lists Carie [sic] Cannon (born February 1863, aged 37; widowed; 3 children all living; born in WV;
parents born in WV); son John F. (born February 1883; aged 17; born in WV father born in IN; mother
born in WV); daughter Jessie L. (born August 1885; aged 14, born in WV; father born in IN; mother
born in WV); and son Otis (born June 1889; aged 10; born in WV; father born in IN; mother born in
WV).  Also living with the family as boarders were Robt I. Fraser and Annie Edwards.
 
The 1920 census indicates that Carrie Cannon was fifty years old, that she had been born in West
Virginia, and that both her parents were from West Virginia.

Obituary for Mrs. Alice C.M. Bumbaugh from "The Daily News", McKeesport, Allegheny County,
Pennsylvania, dated Wednesday,  10 May 1950.  It reads as follows:  Mrs. Alice Callaway Murray
Bumbaugh of 1301 Bailie Ave., a resident of McKeesport nearly all her life, died at 12:45 p.m.
yesterday in the McKeesport Hospital after an eight month illness.  Mrs. Bumbaugh was born in Troy,
N.Y., the daughter of the late George and Mary Ann Callaway.  She was a member of St. Stephen's
Episcopal Church and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 514.  Survivors
include her husband, Grant D. Bumbaugh; one son, James Murray of McKeesport; one daughter, Mrs.
Louise Stevens of Clairton; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Leah Biddle of McKeesport; five brothers, Jack of
Los Angeles, California; Joseph, George, Sam and William of McKeesport; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Tate
of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Bella McEwen and Mrs. Gladys Johnson of McKeesport, and nine grandchildren. 
Friends are being received at the Finney Funeral Home where services are listed for 2 p.m. Friday
with the Rev. John S. Taylor officiating.  Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park.

Obituary for Leah N. Biddle from "The Daily News", McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, dated
Saturday, 25 April 1992.  It reads as follows:  Leah N. Biddle, 81, of White Oak died this morning at
McKeesport Hospital.  Born in McKeesport 7 February 1911, Mrs. Biddle is survived by her husband
Marshall D. Biddle.  She is the daughter of the late Grant Bumbaugh and Jessie Cannon.  Mrs. Biddle
also is survived by a daughter DorisJean [sic] Kearns of White Oak; four sons, Grant W. of
Somerville, N.J., R. Eugene of Lindsay, California, Marshall D. Jr. of Lansdowne, Maryland, and
George R. of White Oak; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.  Visitation is scheduled
7-9 p.m. tomorrow and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Strifflers' of White Oak.  Services will be
conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home, followed [by] internment.

dated Monday, 22 June 1992.  It reads as follows:  Marshall D. Biddle, 83, of White Oak died
yesterday at home.  Retired from Firth Loach Metal, he formerly served on the board of directors of
the Mon-Yough Community Mental Health and Mental Retardation Services, Inc.  Born 23 October 1908, in
McKeesport, he was a son of the late William and Eurana Biddle.  Husband of the late Leah N. Bumbaugh
Biddle who died 25 April 1992, he is survived by daughter, DorisJean [sic] Kearns of White Oak; sons,
Grant W. of Somerville, N.J., R. Eugene of Lindsay, California, Marshall D. of Lansdowne, Md., and
George R. of White Oak; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, James of McKeesport; and
sister Alice Bernhardy of Port Vue.  Friends will be received tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in
Strifflers' White Oak where service will be conducted in the chapel Wednesday morning.
