Grace Irene Whale Meneely states: Harriet had the extreme life of all the children. She went to Pitt
University (Pgh) around 1917 on a scholarship when most women [didn't] even graduated from high
school - men, either for that matter. Ernest taught Business Administration at Indiana State Normal
College (Indiana, Pa) and had a Tax office. Eventually he became a Government Accting Officer
overseas. When they lived in Germany Harriet taught English at Berlin University. When they lived
in Iren (then Persia) she taught English at Tehran University. Ernest had Parkinson and she took
care of him for 18 years. He didn't even know her. She was a champion for many causes- LaDopa when
it came out for Parkinson's disease and in Florida a group called "Gray Power". Poor thing, the
thing she needed most was sight and she lost that. She was tiny, petite, and very "fiesty"
