Page 274] Monday Aug. 2, 1852

On motion it is ordered by the Court that A.C.McDOUGAL Presly W HENSLEY and William MELTON be
appointed commissioners who after having been duly sworn shall allot and set apart to Harriet M
BREWER widow of George W BREWER dec'd [& all the children under the age of fiftten years-crossed out]
so much of the assets belonging to said estate as shall be sufficient for the support [their-crossed
out] her and family [said children-crossed out] for the term of twelve months from the death of her
said husband and that they report the same to the next term of this Court. Issd Aug 6, 1852


This day Lewis A BREWER who was this day appointed Administrator of the estate of George W BREWER
Dec'd Came into Court and entered into bond in the sum of two thousand dollars with A J BREWER and
Carroll THOMPSON his securities [which-crossed out] conditioned for the faithful performance of his
said Administratorship which was received by the Court and ordered to be recorded Whereupon the said
Lewis A BREWER took the necessary oath for his qualification

Upon the application of Hariet M. BREWER widow of the late George W. BREWER decased and it appearing
to the Court that Lewis A BREWER Administrator of the estate of said George W. BREWER deceased had
notice of the intention of the said widow to make said application he being present and consenting
thereto both as such administrator and as one of the distributees of said estate It is ordered by the
Court that Gray PHILIPS and William MELTON and the County Surveyor of Wayne County or his deputy be
and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay off to said Hariet M. BREWER widow as aforesaid
Dower out of the lands of which the said George W. BREWER died seized and possessed including in said
dower one third in value of said lands including the mansion house and necessary out houses where the
said George W BREWER resided before his death and that they report the same to a subsequent term of

From Chancery Court Loose Records 1890-1899 Wayne County, Tennessee:  Plaintiff James A. Smith
Defendant B.F.Arnett  Daniel B. Smith a person of unsound mind, who sues by James H. Smith his next
kin, both resident of Wayne County against B.F. Arnett, a resident of the state of Texas, R.C.
Martin, Julia A. Brewer and S. James Arnett, citizens of Wayne County.  From case records: That at
the signing of the deed Jane Brewer was old and illiterate could neither read nor write and that
Daniel B. Smith was a person of unsound mind. That in January 1894, shortly after Jane Brewer died
and at the request of R.C. Martin trustee W.L. Bromley, sold land to the hightest bidder and
R.C.Martin, bid same off (note: Daniel B. Smith, James H. Smith, Julia A. Brewer,are brothers and
sister, B.F.Arnett is an brother in law, husband of Sarah Smith, Richard Smith and Harriett Smith
must have died by this date.  Jane Virginia Wilson, first married Spencer Smith, then Andrew Jackson
Brewer, Andrew Jackso n Brewer is the father of W.A. Brewer, who married Jane's daughter Julia. Jane
Virginia Wilson sister Elizabeth was married to George W. Brewer, father of Richard M. Brewer who
stated in this case the following:  November 12, 1897 Wayne County: R.M. Brewer, I am 54 years old
and live within two miles from Waynesboro, a farmer. I was born and rasied on Butlers Creek and lived
there until 1891, and live where I now live since then. I am my own cousin to Dan and James H. Smith,
Jane Brewer was my Aunt. they didn't swap the land that was willed to them.

George W. Brewer born 1803 married first Elizabeth Wilson, dau of Michael and Mary Wilson.  Eliz died
1847.  George married 2nd Harriet Merandy Whitten born May 1, 1809 SC died 21 May 1894.  George &
Harriet had no children.  She raised his children by Eliz.  Lewis A. Brewer born 1831 md 7 Jan 1857
to Nancy A. Lackey aka Anna.  Lewis killed in 1860's by Bill Melton. James E. Brewer md Louisa A
Hollis (widow of a Gibson).  James killed later by George K. Brewer
